Cuban Boxers to Compete in World Championships

Havana.- Cuban boxers will defend their title by countries, won two years ago in Doha, when they won four gold medals, at the World Championships in Hamburg.

The Cuban delegation includes the world champions Joahnys Argilagos (49 Kg.), Lázaro Alvarez (60), Arlen López (75) and Julio César La Cruz (81), as well as Yosbany Veitía (52), Javier Ibáñez (56), Andy Cruz (64), Roniel Iglesias (69) and Erislandy Savón (91).

Historically, Cuba has won ten titles by countries in 17 participations in world championships, totaling 71 gold, 32 silver and 25 bronze medals.

The Cuban boxer who has won most medals is Félix Savón with six titles in Reno-1986, Moscú-1989, Sydney-1991, Tampere-1993, Berlin and Houston, always in the 91-Kg division.
