Major Eastern Cuban Port Rehabilitated
Monday, August 21, 2017

Havana.- The port of Nuevitas, in eastern Camagüey province, has benefited from a rehabilitation project worth nearly 40 million dollars.

The project is part of the strategy to turn that facility into Cuba's second largest port on the north coast.

The works included the construction of docks, one of which was designed to handle cruise ships, thus facilitating the access to Santa Lucía, the region's main tourist destination.

Moreover, an incinerator will be built in the area to process solid wastes, an indispensable requirement, according to international environmental standards.

The plan also envisages increasing the port's storage capacity and creating conditions to receive ships that are more than 186 meters long.
