Monday, September 11, 2017
Havana.- The Cuban athlete Omara Duran was chosen the best female athlete in the Paralympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016.
The award was announced in the framework of the gala at the 18th General Assembly of the world sports committee for people with disabilities.
The award acknowledges the results of the Cuban athlete at the Paralympic Games, at which she won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races in the T12 category (deep visually impaired) and broke four world records.
That way, Duran was among the best athletes in nine sports. The best male athlete was Siamand Rahman, from Iran.
The awards are granted every two years and Cuba's Yunidis Castillo was nominated in 2013 for her performance at the Paralympic Games in London in 2012.
