Increased Lobster Captures in Western Cuba
Monday, September 11, 2017

Havana.- The Pinar del Rio-based Empresa Pesquera Industrial La Coloma (EPICOL) has captured 745 tons of lobsters.

The boats used for that activity are expected to capture 1,320 tons of lobsters this year, considering the high presence of that crustacean in the region.

Previously and in order to preserve the species, a 135-day close season was established, and a capture ceiling was set in the Batabano-Isla de la Juventud-La Coloma zone.

The company reported its largest production in 1985, when it captured 4,258 tons of lobsters, followed by 2002, when it reported 3,080 tons.

The company has one of the most modern processing plants in Latin America and its main clients are Asian and European nations.
