Cuban Apiculturists Work to Recover Honey Production
Monday, September 18, 2017

Havana.- The agricultural sector in eastern Ciego de Avila province is working to recover bee honey production, which was severely affected by Hurricane Irma.

According to experts, efforts focus on the rehabilitation of beehives, as the cyclone destroyed them in ten municipalities of the province.

In addition, the winds devastated the flowering plants in the municipalities of Bolivia, Morón and Chambas.

Apiculturists plan to feed queen bees and drones with humid crude sugar, while they build the apiaries and wait for the flowering of white and purple bellflowers.

From April to August, 3,500 beehives were transferred to islets north of Ciego de Avila, mainly on Cayo Coco.
