Cuba's Major Coastal Resort Recovers Facilities |
|
|
Monday, September 18, 2017
Havana.- Varadero, Cuba's major coastal resort, is recovering the facilities that were damaged by Hurricane Irma before the beginning of the peak tourist season.
That destination has 28 hotels in operation, and that number is expected to increase by mid-November to meet the growing demand from foreign holidaymakers.
Several areas in Varadero were damaged by the hurricane, which destroyed glasses, windows, roofs and other structures, as well as trees, gardens and public lighting.
Varadero has more than 20,000 rooms for domestic and international tourists in an area of two dozen square kilometers.
The Cuban hotel chains Cubanacán, Gran Caribe, Gaviota and Islazul operate in Varadero, as well as foreign companies with administration contracts.
