Cultural and Historic Values Preserved in Eastern Cuba
Monday, September 25, 2017

Havana.- Experts in eastern Holguin province are focusing their efforts on the protection and preservation of cultural and historic values kept in the Calixto Garcia Birthplace Museum.

The institution, located in downtown Holguin, was designated a National Monument in 1978 and holds important collections of historic documents and objects.

Among the actions under way is cleaning the dust and constant measurement of temperature and humidity, as well as regular fumigation n a special chamber.

The museum holds an exhibition dedicated to several generals who participated in the wars for Cuba's independence, including Angel Guerra, José Miró Argenter and Julio Grave de Peralta.

It also keeps a collection of more than 2,000 texts written before the 20th century, including the original edition of the magazine "La Edad de Oro" (The Golden Age), published by Jose Marti in 1889.
