Replica of Jose Marti's Equestrian Statue in Cuba
Monday, October 9, 2017

Havana.- The Cuban capital will have a replica of Jose Marti's equestrian statue by the U.S. artist Anna Hyatt Huntington.

The sculpture, similar to the one erected in New York's Central Park in 1950, will be placed in the 13 de Marzo Square, in Havana's Historic Heart.

The bronze statue, which is 5.6 meters tall and weighs three tons, is already in Cuba and works are under way on the pedestal.

Experts from the company Restaura are working on the site where the statue will be erected.

The sculpture evokes the death of Cuba's National Hero in Dos Rios, on May 19, 1895, and the original statue was Cuba's gift to the city of New York.
