Havana.- The healthcare system in eastern Holguin province is implementing specialized treatments against sloughs.
The Cuban Association of the Physically-Impaired (ACLIFIM) in Holguin is promoting those actions, as part of a strategy to improve the quality of life of its members.
The method includes surgery to relieve aches and pains caused by sloughs, which are frequent in bed- or wheelchair-ridden patients.
According to experts, the treatments benefit patients suffering from paraplegias, quadriplegias, muscular dystrophy and brain palsy associated to neurological disorders.
The healthcare system also distributes anti-slough mattresses that facilitate blood circulation and tissue oxygenation, thus preventing the lesions.
