Cruise Tourism Gains Ground
Monday, October 16, 2017

New York.- Cruise tourism is gaining ground worldwide in the leisure industry, with possibilities to exceed 25.3 million passengers in 2017.

Miami is the world's main port of call for cruise ships, with 4.8 million passengers in 2016, followed by Cañaveral (3.9 million tourists) and Port Everglades (3.6 million), in the United States.

In Latin America, Cozumel tops the list and ranks fourth in the world, with 3.3 million passengers, while in Asia, Shanghai (China) is fifth with 2.8 million travelers.

In Europe, Barcelona handled more than 2.6 million cruise tourists in 2016, thus becoming the first European destination and the sixth worldwide.

In the early 21st century, the American continent shared 91 percent of the market, but that volume decreased to 63 percent last year, while Europe's grew 36 percent.
