Engineering Infrastructures Are Restored in Central Cuba
Monday, October 23, 2017

Havana.- Specialized forces are working in the rehabilitation of engineering infrastructures in central Cuba, especially the road that provides access to Cayo Santa Maria.

The causeway that connects northern Villa Clara with the key was seriously damaged by Hurricane Irma.

The 48-kilometer-long road has 46 bridges from Caibarien, where it starts in the main island.

Rehabilitation works include laying some 9,000 tons of asphalt to guarantee the safe transit of vehicles carrying tourists.

Construction of the causeway began in 1989, and due to its excellent quality, the project won the International Alcantara Bridge Award to the Best Work in Ibero-America.
