More Foreign Investments in Mariel Special Development Zone
Monday, November 13, 2017

Havana.- The Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM, in Spanish), in western Cuba, is hosting three dozens of projects with investments that exceed 1.1 billion dollars.

ZEDM executives pointed out that since November 2016, 12 new business projects between Cuba and Portugal, Switzerland, Canada, Russia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Spain and France have been approved.

The projects involve companies from 14 companies, including 16 with foreign capital, eight joint ventures and two under the International Economic Association modality.

Among them is the family business Rimco, from Puerto Rico, a distributor in that country of construction and mining machinery and other equipment made by the firm Caterpillar.

In addition, the new portfolio of business opportunities to invest in the ZEDM contains 50 projects in sectors like industry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, logistics, food, construction, transportation and real estate.
