Cuba Gets Ready for 2017-2018 Harvest
Monday, December 4, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's sugar industry is putting the finishing touches on the upcoming 2017-2018 harvest, with plans to activate 26 factories in December.

According to the group AZCUBA, 26 other sugar factories will join the harvest in January, and a total of 53 such industries will operate during the entire campaign.

Villa Clara province, which has nine sugar mills, will incorporate the largest number of factories during the harvest, which is scheduled to conclude on May 3, 2018.

AZCUBA executives said that 68 percent of the harvest will be carried out using modern cutting and transportation equipment, combined machinery, tractors and trucks.

The harvest already started at the Boris Luis Santa Coloma sugar mill in western Cuba, as it has the necessary raw materials to operate.
