Favorable Conditions for Commercial Aviation in Latin America

Panama.- Commercial aviation in Latin America is benefiting from favorable conditions, with possibilities to report profits of nearly 700 million dollars in 2017.

Regional officials from the International Air Transport Agency (IATA) pointed out that in 2018, estimated profits will total 900 million dollars.

In terms of demand, it is expected to increase 8 percent next year, 0.5 percent more than in 2017 (7.5 percent).

Air transportation is vital for Latin America and the Caribbean, as it contributes 167 million dollars to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 5.2 million jobs.

By countries, it was noted that Brazilian airlines have recuperated, and there are medium- and long-term prospects in the case of Cuba.
