Peru Expects Increase in Tourist Arrivals
Monday, December 11, 2017

Lima.- The tourism industry in Peru is expected to receive four million foreign holidaymakers a year, as part of a growing strategy in the sector.

Official sources revealed that in the first nine months of 2017, the country was visited by 2,944,773 foreign tourists.

Among the most visited tourist destinations in Peru is the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, in the Andean region of Cusco, 1,104 meters southeast of Lima.

The tourism industry contributes nearly 1.3 million jobs to the national economy, in addition to represent 4 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In 2016, Peru was visited by 3,744,461 international tourists.
