Cultural Wealth at House of Guayabera
Monday, January 8, 2018

Havana.- The House of Guayabera, a major cultural institution in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus, promoted the national heritage in 2017.

More than 250 guayaberas (Cuban typical shirts) are part of the House's collection, which was enriched last year by guayaberas that belonged to Namibian historic leader Sam Nujoma and Cuban Dignity Foreign Minister Raúl Roa.

Other acquisitions included the guayaberas of the journalist Max Lesnik and the Cuban architect Augusto Rivero.

The center, the only one of its kind in Cuba, organized the Week of Japanese Culture in the provincial capital, and the Technological Fair La Guayabera 5.0.

The House's catalogue contains guayaberas that belonged to other world-renowned personages, like prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, Nobel Literature Prize winners Gabriel García Márquez and Miguel Angel Asturias, and former Presidents Hugo Chávez and Rafael Correa.
