More Foreign Tourists Visit Nepal
Monday, January 8, 2018

Kathmandu.- International tourist arrivals in Nepal totaled 940,000 holidaymakers in 2017, accounting for a 24.8-percent increase in contrast to the previous year.

According to official sources, that result exceeds by 187,000 vacationers the historic record reported in 2012, when the country was visited by 803,092 vacationers.

India was Nepal's major tourist-sending market with 160,832 holidaymakers, followed by China (104,664) and the United States in the third place (79,164 vacationers).

According to experts, the increase in tourist arrivals resulted, among other factors, from the promotional campaigns carried out by the Council of Tourism, which has a plan of two million foreign holidaymakers by 2022.

In 2015, Nepal was visited by 539,000 tourists, the lowest number over the past six years, in an environment marked by the earthquake that killed 9,000 people.
