Improved Maternal and Child Health Care in Eastern Cuba |

Havana.- The healthcare system in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba reported an infant mortality rate of 4 deaths per every 1,000 live births in 2017.
According to experts, this result is the second lowest in the region's history, in addition to a lower mortality rate due to congenital defects last year.
Moreover, mortality among children under five years of age remained at 5.8 per 1,000 live births, while that indicator among children of school age dropped by 1.2 deaths per 10,000 inhabitants.
In the period analyzed, the infertility consultation plan was fulfilled in the Center for Assisted Reproduction of Low Technology in the province.
This type of service works through consultations in nine municipalities to assist couples and strengthen family planning.
