Improved Surgical Procedures in Holguin |

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Holguín reported 88,135 surgical interventions of various types in 2017.
That figure, according to sources from the health sector, represents 104 percent of compliance with last year's plan.
The sources also highlighted that of that total, 48,834 surgeries were major procedures and of these more than 50 percent were elective.
Coupled with this, the number of minimal access surgeries increased, with respect to 2016, when more than 5,000 such procedures were performed.
The specialists noted the activity of transplants, neurosurgery and hip fracture operations. In the case of the latter, 363 of 384 surgeries were performed within the first 24 hours.
The territory has 14 hospitals, including three at the provincial level, where most surgeries are performed.
