Havana.- The children's laboratories in central Sancti Spiritus province have been equipped with modern equipment to improve health care.
The province has benefited from SUMA technology, which allows testing newly born children for cystic fibrosis (CF).
The tests, which were made from January to April in Havana, Mayabeque, Artemisa and Matanzas as well, seek to demonstrate the effectiveness of a diagnostic kit developed by the Immune-Essay Center.
According to specialists, the tests are carried out using blood samples taken from the baby's heel, and in this first stage, only children born in the provincial capital are included.
Cystic fibrosis mainly affects the lungs and, to a lesser extent, the pancreas, liver and intestine.
