Cuba Promotes Actions to Preserve Old Documents
Monday, February 19, 2018

Havana.- The Sauto Theater, a 19th-century neoclassical building in the eastern Cuban city of Matanzas, houses a laboratory to restore documents.

The facility hosted a course on restoration at which participants acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to prevent and reverse the deterioration of old documents.

This initiative aims to create products for the conservation of documents and books, a project that was implemented in the Cuban cities of Cienfuegos and Camagüey.

The laboratory is sponsored by the Office of the Historian of Havana and the Office of the Curator of Matanzas.

The Sauto Theater was designated a National Monument and preserves most of its authentic elements, including the restored English machinery to elevate the stalls to the stage level.
