Cuban Exports Charcoal to Europe
Monday, February 19, 2018

Havana.- The exports of Cuban charcoal to European markets stands out among the actions to diversify the country's portfolio of products for international sales.

In that direction, the Ciego de Avila-based Empresa Agroindustrial Ceballos has exported more than 200,000 tons of charcoal to Europe over the past decade.

Commercialization is carried out by the Cítricos Caribe S.A. in such countries as Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain and others, where buyers are interested in the quality of the Cuban product and its energy qualities.

Lumberjacks fell sickle bush trees to use them as raw material, due to that timber's hardness and fast growth.

Charcoal exports started as a way to find environmentally-friendly energy sources, in addition to contributing to the elimination of a species that affects arable lands.
