Cuban Charcoal for International Markets
Monday, March 12, 2018

Havana.- Local companies in Camagüey have diversified their charcoal production, with a view to meeting to the demand from customers in Asia, Latin America and Europe.

In this direction, exports of coal dust, used to make briquettes, in the forms of cylinders or brick to replace firewood, have increased.

Moreover, the companies will commercialize the product, made from a mixture of sickle bush and llana and bullet (Bucida bruceras) trees, whose timber is very hard.

This year's production is estimated to reach 1,000 tons of charcoal, and the first 59 tons have already been exported, while a new shipment of 80 tons is ready.

Commercialization of charcoal in the international market, for six years, has generated profits that ensure financing the development of other sectors.
