Repairs under Way in Cuban Cement Industry
Monday, March 12, 2018

Havana.- Cuba plans to start the process of modernization of the national cement industry in early 2018, with a view to increasing production of that construction material.

According to experts, actions will begin in all three plants, including the assembly of a new factory in Santiago de Cuba, which will replace the José Mercerón plant.

This new factory will have a production capacity of around one million tons of clinker and is expected to deliver 1.2 million tons of gray cement annually.

Moreover, the factories Siguaney, in Sancti Spíritus, and 26 de Julio, in Nuevitas, will be improved, in order to recover their full capacity to produce gray cement.

The sector will receive funds of nearly 700 million pesos to double cement production by 2025.
