Cuba Promotes Early Detection of Skin Cancer
Monday, March 12, 2018

Havana.- The health system in the eastern Cuban province of Camagüey has a dermatoscopy service at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital.

The method is aimed at the early detection of skin cancer through an optical system and as a previous step oil is applied to better visualize the patient's injuries.

According to experts, this procedure helps to identify about 100 histological structures where pigmented lesions are evaluated to determine whether they are benign or malignant.

This procedure also allows identifying infectious lesions, although cancer is prioritized due to the consequences caused by late detection.

In addition, with this method, patients show more confidence and come to surgery with a more efficient estimate of what would be the safety oncological margin.
