Cultural and Historic Values of Cuban Bridge Highlighted
Monday, June 11, 2018

Havana.- The bridge over the San Agustín River, which was built in the western province of Matanzas in the 19th century, stands out as the only one in Cuba that used the technology of braided steel cables.

This procedure was used successfully on the Brooklyn Bridge, in New York City, in the United States.

The work was used to facilitate the laying of an aqueduct pipe, instead of doing it under the river.

The hanging structure has steel cables with columns and iron rods, and it is 62 meters long on the main tributary of the important San Juan River.

The structure remains despite the damage caused by weather conditions, the strength of the waters and high temperatures, and has resisted since 1872.
