Cuban Chess Players Ready for Olympics
Monday, June 11, 2018

Havana.- Cuba's best chess male and female players will make the teams that will compete in the World Chess Olympics in Georgia.

Among the men are Grand Master (GM) Lázaro Bruzón, who will defend the first board in the absence of GM Leinier Dominguez.

Grand Masters Yusnel Bacallao, Isán Ortiz, Omar Almeida and Yuri González complete the men's team.

Meanwhile, the women's team will include Maritza Arribas, Yerisbel Miranda, Lisandra Llaudy, Lisandra Ordaz and Yaniet Marrero.

The National Commission explained that both groups were formed taking into consideration the players' Elo score over the past two years, as well as their performances in international and domestic tournaments.

Two years ago, in Baku, the women's team finished in 18th place and men's team in the 25th position, far from their best results at this level.
