Improved Conditions in Eastern Cuban Port
Monday, June 11, 2018

Havana.- The port of Baracoa, in the eastern Cuban province of Guantanamo, has benefited from a dredging program to improve harbor facilities.

Workers with Empresa Nacional de Obras Marítimas are responsible for the works, which is supported by a dredger that facilitates the cleaning of the area.

The draft of Baracoa Bay has been significantly reduced in recent years, as a result of the accumulation of fluvial sediments.

According to experts, the cleaning of the roadstead will be carried out in about five months and once completed it will allow the operations of vessels that are up to 80 meters in length, 12 in beam and 4.27 in draft.

In that regard, some 100,000 cubic meters of material are expected to be extracted to restore the conditions of the port, where a barrier against waves will be built as well.
