Infant Mortality Rate Decreases in Cuba
Monday, June 11, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban health system reported the lowest infant mortality rate in its history in the first five months of this year, with 3.9 deaths per every 1,000 live births.

Health authorities pointed out that this result responds to the positive impact of the mother-child program, together with excellent work in primary care, maternity homes and children's intensive care units.

Likewise, Cuban authorities plan to close 2018 with an infant mortality rate of less than 4.0 deaths per every 1,000 live births reported last year.

To this end, priority is given to maternal mortality and strategies to improve neonatal, delivery and pre-natal services throughout the country.

Coupled with this, achievements have been made in the techniques acquired in the treatment of infertile couples and extreme measures have been taken to treat possible causes, among which abortion stands out.
