|
|
Monday, June 18, 2018
Havana.- The Wax Museum in Bayamo, the only one of its kind in Cuba, will add to its exhibit a sculpture of the poet and improviser Jesús Orta Ruiz, also known as El Indio Naborí (The Naborí Indian).
Executives from the institution pointed out that the sculpture will be unveiled on October 20, in the framework of the Cuban Culture Festival that is held every year in that city.
The Barrios family does the sculptures and so far, they have created 19 works that include the musicians Benny Moré, Compay Segundo, Polo Montañés, Bola de Nieve and Sara González.
The sculpture will be in a standing position, as if the artist were reciting a poem, with his hands open and facing forward, and he will be looking straight ahead and without glasses, as agreed by relatives.
Jesús Orta Ruiz was of humble origin. He was born in Havana in 1922 and achieved great popularity through his literary work, in which he cultivated genres such as poetry, essay, journalism and Cuban "décima" (ten-verse stanzas).
