Monday, June 18, 2018

Havana.- Cuba will participate with 479 qualified athletes in the Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled from July 19 to August 3 in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.

Executives from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) pointed out that this number should increase to 569 competitors.

In that regard, they recalled that some slots are still pending in sports such as athletics, swimming, diving and tennis.

In Barranquilla, 16 sports will award slots for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, and 50 Cuban athletes already have spots in that regional event in cycling, pentathlon, men's softball, sailing and weightlifting.

Cuba's main potentialities are athletics, judo, wrestling, boxing, badminton, rowing, canoeing and taekwondo, with strong rivalry between Colombia and Mexico.
