Festival of fire in Eastern Cuba
Monday, July 9, 2018

Havana.- The 38th edition of the Caribbean Festival, also known as Fiesta del Fuego (Festival of Fire), will gather some 700 representatives from 26 countries this year.

The event will have Puerto Rico as the guest of honor, hence the presence of a Puerto Rican delegation made up of artists, musicians, artisans, filmmakers, poets and academics.

As a new element, the event will go beyond the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba and will extend its activities to the municipalities of Second Front and Third Front.

For plastic arts, three dozen scenarios are ready with the assistance of renowned creators such as Alberto Lescay Merencio and Eduardo Roca Salazar (Choco), National Prize Award winners in Plastic Arts in 2017.

There is also a theoretical event, together with the presentation of books like "El Caribe, entre el Ser y el Definir", by Joel James (1942-2006), founder-director of the House of the Caribbean and the main promoter of the Festival of Fire.
