Cuban Sport Loses to Important Figure
Monday, August 6, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban sports movement lost an important figure after the death of Professor Pedro Val, who was among the best wrestling coaches in the world.

Val had coached the Cuban national teams since 1975, contributing in a decisive way to forge brilliant athletes who have left their imprint worldwide.

In that regard, top wrestlers like Héctor Milián, Filiberto Ascuy and Mijaín López, Olympic champions in the 1990s, were trained by Val.

In 2010, he was chosen the best coach in the world by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling (FILA).

At Olympic events, Val was a master in winning, because in the seven editions held between Barcelona-1992 and Rio de Janeiro-2016, his athletes won medals in six such international events.
