Regulations for Tourism on Easter Island
Monday, August 6, 2018

Santiago, Chile.- The Chilean territory of Easter Island will enforce new regulations for visitors, with a view to guaranteeing the protection of the environment.

The norms establish that those who travel as tourists can stay for a maximum period of 30 days, in addition to presenting a series of requirements to authorities, including having a return ticket and reservation in authorized tourist facilities, or a letter of invitation from a person from the Rapa Nui people or another person authorized to reside on the island.

People who belong to the Rapa Nui group and their families, current residents, hired workers, public officials, researchers and authorities can stay more than 30 days.

The territory is known for its archaeological sites and monumental statues called moáis, which were created by local people between the 13th and the 15th centuries.
