Sugar Heritage during Summer Season in Cuba
Monday, August 20, 2018

Havana.- The Sugar Museum of Ciego de Avila, housed in an old sugar mill, stands out as an ideal cultural option during the Cuban summer.

According to specialists, visitors can appreciate the beginnings of the industry in the province, the agricultural mechanization and the varieties of sugar cane.

In addition, there is an area dedicated to exhibit old steam locomotives, a 1917 zeppelin and a crane that was used in the construction of the Panama Canal.

The museum was inaugurated in 2011 as part of the cultural project The Slave Route, approved by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) in 1993.

It is worth mentioning that seven sugar factories in Cuba have been turned into museums by virtue of an agreement between the National Council of Cultural Heritage and the National Monuments Commission.
