Diabetes Mellitus Affects Cuban Population
Monday, August 20, 2018

Havana.- Diabetes mellitus affects the Cuban population, with more than one million people suffering from this chronic metabolic disease.

The condition is characterized by high levels of sugar in blood, and the incidence of the disease increases every year, as well as becoming a major cause of mortality.

The rise in diabetes cases results from the increase in unhealthy eating habits, in addition to the replacement of physical activity outdoors for virtual sports in computers.

Faced with this, prevention is promoted in Cuba, where patients receive the tools necessary for the metabolic control of the disease.

Therefore, patients have glucometers, reagent strips and insulin, in addition to access to the drug Policosanol, which decreases the levels of cholesterol in blood.
