Maya Train Project for Tourism in Mexico
Monday, August 20, 2018

Mexico.- Mexican tourism authorities are weighing the construction of the Mayan Train project, designed to develop the leisure industry in the Yucatan Peninsula.

The project, also known as the Trans-Peninsular Tourist Train, requires an investment of nearly 6.3 billion dollars.

The railroad will have an extension of 1,500 kilometers of roads, including areas in the states of Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Campeche and Yucatan.

Among other points, the train will pass through Calakmul, Tulum, Bacalar, Mérida and Valladolid, a route that will serve to reach the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá.

The funds will come from tourism taxes and from an alliance with the private sector to give a joint nature to the investment.
