Population Aging Increases in Central Cuba
Monday, September 24, 2018

Havana.- The central Cuban province of Villa Clara has reported the highest rate of population aging in the country, accounting for 23.5 percent of its inhabitants over 60 years of age.

Moreover, the territory has 183 people who 100 years old or older, including 182,380 who are in their 60s.

Until late 2017, Cuba reported 2,176 people over 100 years of age, for whom a comprehensive care program was conceived by the Ministry of Public Health.

The members of this population group suffer from few diseases, because they have minimized them due to their own mechanisms or genetic conditions.

According to estimates, by 2030, one-third of the Cuban population will be over 60 years of age, in contrast to 20.1 percent of the people today.
