Cruise Tourism in the Panama Canal
Monday, October 8, 2018

Panama.- The Panama Canal expects the transit of about 234 cruises in the 2018-2019 season, as part of the sustained increase in this modality.

In the mentioned period, the plans estimate the mobilization of 237,000 passengers through this option.

The Panama Canal Administration (ACP) stated that 10 new cruises will transit for the first time through the panamax and neopanamax locks, operating since 1914 and 2016, respectively.

This list includes vessels of lines such as Princess Cruise, Carnival Cruises, MSC, Norwegian Cruise, Viking Ocean Cruises, Hurtigruten, Iles Du Ponant and Blount Small Ship Adventure lines.

Also, the Norwegian Bliss, the largest passenger ship to transit the Canal, will return to the neopanamax locks along with the Caribbean Princess, the Carnival Freedom and the Disney Wonder.

The Panamanian highway connects more than 140 maritime routes and 1,700 ports in 160 countries.
