Havana.- The Cuban painter Jose Angel Toirac, who has a long career in plastic arts, was granted the National Plastic Arts Award as an acknowledgement of his work's projection.
The award is endorsed by three dozen exhibitions, both personal and collective, which confirm a systematic presence in galleries nationwide.
A graduate from the San Alejandro Provincial School of Fine Arts in 1985 and the Higher Institute of Art in 1990, Toirac has won two National Curatorship prizes.
His works are part of the collections of the Ludwig Forum in Germany, the Atlantic Center of Modern Art in Spain; the Arizona State University Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in United States, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal in Canada.
The National Plastic Arts Award was granted for the first time in 1994 and on this occasion, Flora Fong, Zaida del Rio, Rafael Zarza, Manuel Hernandez, Alberto Lezcay, Ileana Mulet, Arturo Montoto and Roberto Diago, among others, were nominated.
