Havana.- The Representative List of Humankind's Intangible Heritage added to the traditional Parrandas (carnivals) held in central Cuba.
The decision was adopted by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), within the framework of the 13th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
To this end, a file prepared by the Cuban National Council of Cultural Heritage was analyzed, with the collaboration of other institutions.
These festivities are characterized by the cultural competition between two neighborhoods where cultural dialogue, respect for identity and diversity converge.
In that context, each group reproduces a legend or history of the culture of humanity, which is accompanied by songs, dances and fireworks.
