Cuban Sports Aims at Lima-2019

Havana.- Cuban sport has 337 athletes qualified for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019, and there are aspirations to add another 125 athletes to the regional qualification.

The slots correspond to 22 sports, including athletics (30), rowing (24), wrestling (18), gymnastics (17), shooting (16) and fencing (14) as those with the largest presence among individual sports.

Meanwhile, in the collective disciplines, the qualified teams are those of water polo, handball, baseball, hockey, softball and volleyball.

More athletes are expected to qualify in track and field, boxing, judo, taekwondo, badminton, karate, sailing and diving.

According to Cuban authorities, the goal is to qualify in several sports for the Olympic Games, in addition to improving the country's performance in 2015, when Cuba won 36 titles, 27 silver medals and 34 bronze medals.
