Ecotourism in Western Cuba

Havana.- Cienaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), in western Cuba, consolidates its positions for nature tourism based on the richness of its environment.

Likewise, this region will host this year the 12th edition of the Nature Tourism Event TURNAT-2019, which is ideal to promote services and products.

This way, the forum will show the attractions of this region, which has a category of National Park, Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar Site and is located in the south of the western province of Matanzas.

As part of the preparations, the facilities of the Caleta Buena tourist center, the Playa Giron hotel and the Crocodile Farm have been improved.

Cienaga de Zapata covers an area of of 738,482 hectares and is considered the largest and best preserved wetland in the insular Caribbean.

The municipality has a population of more than 9,000 people and its flora and fauna is characterized by high endemism, with exclusive species such as manjuari.
