Advanced Drug Is Successfully Administered in Cuba
Monday, February 11, 2019

Havana.- The administration of the Cuban drug Heberprot-P to treat patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers is gaining ground in the eastern province of Ciego de Avila.

According to experts, some 721 patients were treated with the drug in 21 healthcare units in the territory in 2018.

In 2016, 15 amputations were performed, but that number that decreased to six in 2017 and to only four in 2018, thus showing that Heberprot-P has benefited more people.

In addition to this, preventive work in the healthcare areas has advanced, and educational talks were held with diabetic patients so that they could learn how to cope with the disease, and research was carried out.

Ciego de Avila has nine angiologists who work in two provincial hospitals and polyclinics, in addition to eight residents and four interns in that specialty who are receiving training.
