Havana.- Cuba's best karateists are complying with a training base in Guatemala, with a view to taking advantage of the altitude.
The stay in the Central American nation of nine athletes is part of their preparations for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, next summer.
The first fighters in each division will return to Cuba on March 11 and will leave for the Pan-American qualifier in Panama on March 16.
The Guatemalan capital's altitude ranges between 1,500 and 1,600 meters above sea level, a condition that benefits physical performance.
Thanks to adaptations in the body, as a response to height stress, athletic abilities increase in a short period and results improve in the plain.
