Renewable Energy in Eastern Cuba
Monday, March 18, 2019

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas will benefit from the services of new wind farms, with a view to promoting the use of renewable energies.

Specialized forces began the construction of the foundations for the wind turbines that will be installed in La Herradura, where one of the most powerful complexes in the country will operate.

The works extend to the La Herradura-1 park, which will have 34 wind turbines that can provide 51 megawatts per hour, while La Herradora-2 will have 20 of those devices with equal power generation.

Both facilities will provide the National Electric Power System with up to 100 megawatts per hour, thus saving about 75,000 tons of fossil fuels in a year.

Until 2030, Cuba plans that 24 percent of electricity consumption will comes from renewable energies, in a strategy in which Las Tunas aspires to be a leader.
