Sugarcane Museum for Tourism in Western Cuba
Monday, March 18, 2019

Havana.- The Sugarcane Museum of Matanzas, in western Cuba, has become an attraction for national and foreign tourists who visit the territory.

Located in Cardenas municipality, the institution receives up to 120 visitors in one morning through the management of seven travel agencies.

Vacationers enjoy 26 locomotives on display dating from 1895 to 1925, which are the main attraction of the museum, where the process of making sugar is represented.

In addition, tourists have the possibility to ride cars pulled by a steam locomotive build in 1916.

The museum is located in the headquarters of the Jose Smith Comas sugar factory, which operated from 1846 to 2002, when it was transformed into a museum due to restructuring.

The museum exhibits locomotives that contributed to the development of the sugar industry in the city of Cardenas, in Matanzas province
