Sugar Byproducts in Central Cuba
Monday, April 15, 2019

Havana.- The province of Villa Clara is consolidating the production of sugarcane byproducts, as part of efforts to diversify the sector.

This way, the factories associated with the sugar mills have strengthened actions to obtain alcohol, glucose, refined sugar and other items during the first quarter of 2019.

In that regard, the Heriberto Duquesne distillery fulfilled the alcohol plan at 109.75 percent, with emphasis on the preparation of national rum and dry liquor.

In addition, the Remedios plant contributed some 200 tons of glucose in the first quarter of the year, the raw material for sorbitol, which is used to make toothpaste and soft drinks.

Villa Clara also fulfilled the production of syrups for local consumption, as well as urea honey for animal consumption.
