Corn Crops Developed in Ciego de Avila
Monday, May 13, 2019

Havana.- The agricultural sector in the central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila is working this year to plant some 9,500 hectares of corn in ten municipalities.

According to specialists, state and private companies are undertaking this food plan to meet the domestic demand and to supply animal husbandry.

All 135 cooperatives of agricultural production and cooperatives of credit and services deal with cultural attention and the average yields are expected to reach some seven tons per hectare.

All seeds that are being used are hybrid, whose result lies in the cross-pollination of two different varieties interspersed with other crops.

The increase in production responds to the need to guarantee the volumes demanded by the domestic market, in addition to reducing imports.
