Havana.- The Cuban agricultural sector has incorporated new items to its export portfolio, with a view to strengthening the national economy.
In the case of the western province of Pinar del Rio, sales of habanero pepper, a kind of hot pepper that is barely consumed in Cuba, is being exported.
The agricultural company Cubaquivir began planting that kind of pepper in late September 2018, in five crop houses, and the harvest started in December.
Through the exporting company Citricos Caribe, Cubaquivir's habanero pepper is shipped twice a week to markets in Canada and Europe.
The shipments total more than 6.4 tons, with very good acceptance by customers, while other items are evaluated for export.
